The perfect ski pants
The beginning
I've been working on it for a long time, months on end. And now it's finally online; our first ski pants. In this blog post, I'll explain my thinking behind it and, of course, share all the details with you.
What I really wanted to do was create ski pants for the sporty winter sports enthusiast, but above all, I wanted to keep the style in mind. I always design all products from a functional and comfortable perspective. Only then do I add any style, design, prints, and colors. I aim for eye-catching, but always keep it stylish.
The Basics
I wanted the first ski pants for Kou Sportswear to make a statement for the future. I wanted them to immediately reflect our thinking and core requirements. First and foremost, I felt it was important to create pants that wouldn't just fit a woman wearing a size 36/38 (US 8/US 10/US 12/US 14), because if we look at how we women are sized, most wear a size 42-44 (US 12/US 14) instead of a 36-38 (US 12/US 16/US 18). That's why our ski pants, like all our other products, are available in sizes XS through XXL.
It was important to me to create ski pants in a good fabric, with sufficient stretch, the right properties (warmth), and a comfortable feel. This had to be combined with a good fit. And that last point proved to be the most challenging aspect of developing good ski pants: the fit. I tried the pants on and adjusted them after trying them on many women and different body types.
I wanted to make trousers with a slim fit, yet still have enough stretch for freedom of movement. After all, we're going to be sporty in them! I also wanted the trousers to fit as many different figures as possible and be nice and warm in the back. That's why I chose to make the trousers a bit higher in the back.
For the style, just like with the jacket, we've added a beautiful accent with piping along the zippers on the lower legs for a chic finishing touch. This piping is also featured on the jackets, creating a beautiful overall look.
